Entertaining, fun and courteous staff, delicious food. We will definitely return again and again. Hibachi steak and shrimp is my favorite. Chatt was entertaining all at our table, and was so friendly.

I used to love this place, but something has gone tremendously wrong. The food is always delicious to me no matter what, but our chef was extremely off. He would make mistake after mistake with his tricks and it was very disappointing because a hibachi experience is supposed to be entertaining and fun. The most awful thing about our experience here was our waitress. Where do I even begin? While she had the personality to be a waitress, she had absolutely no filter and she couldn't manage to remember a single request that we asked of her. (For example: we all asked for chopsticks before our chef even came out. No chopsticks were given to us until we had to ask our chef more than halfway through the cooking experience.) she made countless mistakes with drinks, rolled her eyes at us numerous times. And even managed to screw up at least 4 out of the 10 meals we ordered. Not to mention that this place was completely empty for 8:30 on a Saturday night. What really hit the nail on the head is when she asked our table if we wanted ice cream for dessert. She begins naming off the flavors, "we have coconut, chocolate, strawberry, green tea... UGH GROSS! Am I right?!".... Actually no, it isn't gross because it happens to be my family's favorite flavor that the establishment provides. Just all around unprofessional and a complete airhead. NEVER undermine a product that could help you and your restaurant make more money that evening. I wish this restaurant could find itself a better staff and a better location. I am giving two stars because I do enjoy the food, but I will never come back again due to my experience.

I cannot say enough about Kabuki. I recommend it to everyone and I tell them all to see Chat on the Hibachi side. I have been coming to Kabuki for the past 6 months or so and Chat is an amazing business owner, chef, and entertainer! Now when we got we often stay for another 30 minutes after eating just talking to Chat, who is a brilliant man. He is a true artist when it comes to the food he prepares and he puts on a hilarious and fun presentation when dining hibachi. He has personally designed every aspect of the menu and we started to talk to him about the sushi. In all of his studies in culinary school he is able to prepare sushi to perfection. We had the Golden Lady just last night and it was unreal! He has changed the way the Philly roll is typically made and it makes all the difference. He is a smart man and he will even see tables when they are close to being closed. He lives for his business and only delivers the absolute best fish and meat to his customers. Just ask him where he gets it from - you'll be in for an amazing story! For those with kids - he even has a hibachi kids menu! If you want to entertain out of town guests, or just go for a meal to forget about the real world go to Kabuki and request Chat!

We've enjoyed this place multiple times over the last few months. It's expensive but overall the food quality is high and the service good. The sushi is not a repeater in my opinion but the hibachi is top notch - must better than most local places. Also, as a surprise, they have a good craft beer list.

Excellent sushi & food, great service, friendly staff, my boyfriend & I used to go to Moonsun until we discovered Kabuki & we absolutely love it! This is one of our favorite places for date nights, always sit at the bar & get excellent service. Best place around for sushi, maki, sashimi, and the maki specials are our favorite!

We saw a groupon for this place so we figured we'd try it. We've tried many of the hibachi restaurants in the area and this would probably be the #2 place for us. I got the lobster/steak and my wife got the chicken/steak. Everything was cooked very well, the fried rice was tasty and the teriyaki sauce was great. . We got a side of the golden and garlic sauces and they were good but not great. The service was good with an attentive staff. The chef was not very personable or interactive like many are. However another chef at another table was quite the opposite and the people at his table seemed to enjoy themselves. We were a group of 2 at the table so perhaps that was also why. All in all, it's worth a visit if in the area and looking for hibachi.

Pretty good tasting food. I had the crazy boy roll. No complaints except the portion was small. Sushi apps were good. Hawaiian tuna app was excellent. Service was okay. The bar tender had adhd and not taking proper dose of his meds. He closed out my bill incorrectly and came and found me in the parking lot to re-run my card. When I want sushi again I am going to try another place to compare. I may be back, may not be back.

Horrible experience at this place! The food was great but the service was beyond dismal. We sat out in the patio area where we were able to witness a manager run up to a guest's car to complain about why she had left no tip; we should have vacated the premise right there and then. After we got our food, the server kept making uncalled for comments at the table. The experience culminated when one of our party members went on to use the facilities; the server told her that people outside weren't allowed back in, to which she replied she just needed him to point her to the restroom. He proceeded to make a lewd remark about her going outside by the plants out back. A guest made a comment about him being rude and he just laughed it off. We got the check and left ASAP due to the embarrassment he had caused her. Do not visit this establishment unless you're ready to have your day ruined.

The staff are so nice a friendly you feel like family. We had hibachi tonight and everything was delicious! Try the golden shrimp as this is one of the best I've had. Beautiful inside-don't let the strip mall fool you. Well worth the trip.

Great entertaining and very fun at our hibachi grilled table by Chef Chad. Amazing food, good atmosphere. Highly recommend :-).

Whoa! Kabuki is in a sketchy strip mall off North avenue that is also home to Salvation Army and Valli Produce. The parking lot is in pretty bad shape so when I arrive to meet some GF's for dinner I wasn't expecting much. My bad! This place was great. The decor is very, very cool and modern, almost city like. We all did the hibachi grill and enjoyed it. The chef was a blast, the food was good and plentiful and most importantly...my martinis were spot on! Some other patrons mentioned this place has great Bento boxes during the week for lunch. I would come back for the hibachi and to try a box for sure.

We Brought the whole family after going to an indoor climbing place nearby. Chef Chatt was very fun and entertaining but what really set him apart was his passion for providing great food. He personally creates all the sauces that accompany his food and the difference is very noticeable. His homemade teriyaki sauce is a huge improvement over the usual restaurant supply stuff. It's a ton of work that few would expect but just shows his great dedication. Whether you go looking for the "floor show" or for a great meal Chef Chatt will not disappoint. Just wish it was closer to home.

Where do I start? My friend and I decided to stop in on a Tuesday night for their maki roll specials. We took a seat at the bar and took at gander at the menu. I love the decor in the restaurant; it feels hip and modern. My love for the restaurant stops there. For sushi I got a shrimp tempura and spider roll. It took forever for us to get our food once it was ordered. Once we did get it, every single piece of my shrimp tempura roll had a shrimp tail in it. Some people may like this, but it disgusted me to no end and kind of put me off for the rest of the night. After maybe three pieces, I was full and wrapped up the rest to-go. Over the course of the night, my friend and I noticed that everyone there was drinking (both patrons and employees), so things got a little rowdy. My friend and I decided to try banana tempura for dessert. That took waaaaaay longer than the sushi. Even the bartender had to double check and make sure he put the order in (which he did, it was just slow). The only sober-looking person was the guy who came out to ask what flavor ice cream we wanted with the tempura. My friend and I stayed and ate, then finally got going. Once outside, we both decided that it wasn't the worst place we've been to, but we're not entirely inclined to return again. The fact that employees were hammered hours before they were supposed to close was so offputting (we literally watched them drink in front of us). I'd maaaaaybe go back, but for the hibachi. It sounded like everyone was having so much fun back there.

Alright Kabuki, where do I start? So I travel to the area quite frequently and will stop in and have a bite usually about once a week or so. The staff here has been very accommodating, friendly, and professional. Now with my two second service plug done, ONTO THE FOOOOOOOOOOD. How was the soup and salad you ask? Gosh, that's what I was going to start with. The salad is always crisp, fresh, and the dressing they use is really spot on. It's very creamy and doesn't have a very overpowering flavor. The soup? Eh, I'm not really a fan of soup in general so take it with a grain of salt. I've found the soup to be a tad on the bland side, and appears a bit greasy. I usually partake in 5 or so sips and call it good. For the dinner I usually get the filet and shrimp. Since the appetizer is shrimp or california roll, I usually end up getting the california roll. Eh, I like to order the california roll anyways, but with it as an appetizer I only get four pieces so it is what it is. The roll was tasty and very enjoyed, just wish there was more. Back to the dinner.... The shrimp was just hibachi, they have like 3 options. Flavorful but a tad over cooked. The filet could be a little more tender, but is still very good. I've definitely had far worse, and only few better. The veggies are heavy with carrot, not a major fan but some do. I'm more of a fan of the onion, mushroom and zucchini, all of which were prepared just right. The rice is a little dry and a little too sweet for my liking. I'm normally big on the rice, but I can't really finish an entire order here. Would I recommend? Yes, one and a half forks up.

We ordered sushi take out. The food was ready within 20 mins. We ordered two side salads, gyoza, spicy crab roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a philly roll. The salads had about 5 bits. I thought they could have put some more in the to go box. The ginger dressing was bland. The shrimp tempura roll was ver soggy and didn't have "that crunch" to it like others I have had. The food doesn't have me coming back for more. I might go back for hibachi but would pass on sushi. The interior is very nice and they have a small patio to each outside which is nice. They don't seem to be very busy so I wonder how "fresh" the fish really is.

I'd have to say, I've been here twice for hibachi and both times the chef's there put on a heck of a show. I've been to dozens of hibachi places around the world and the last time (5-6-15) we had a new chef who did some stuff I've never seen before. he was very entertaining. That makes 2 really good shows in a row. Very close to 5 stars if going just for a good show!

Pretty place especially the bar area. The bartender was very friendly. We ordered a couple drinks since we did not have a reservation and they wanted to fill a hibachi table, which we understood. Great martinis. The hibachi show was okay, not bad but not super fun. The food was delicious. They did goof up our order but we just let it go because the food was tasty. I'll go back. Next time I would like to try the sushi.

Came for my GF's 21st birthday, was a nice atmosphere, arrived an hour and 45 min before closing had to wait like 30-45 min to get a waiter to serve us. It was worth the wait. I ordered the Kabuki beef my gf ordered the sesame calamari no sesame. Our chef, Chris, was the illest chef I've seen, very sociable made us feel comfortable and laughed I highly recommend Chris...food was good. Didn't like the white sauce very strong on the horseradish side....food was good the fried brown rice is amazing. The wait was worth the cooking and entertainment. Chris shorted me on my fried rice though but I wasn't tripping....the wait was the only reason for 4 stars...

Food was hit-or-miss, but we had good service and generally a good experience. We'd return to try some of the other dishes. We came on a Tuesday night for the $4 classic maki and $3 house sake carafe -- fantastic deals! Oddly, when we got there, the specials menu stated the special as 5 classic maki for $20, but the server said we could order as few rolls as we wanted for the $4 pricing. I ordered the Vegetarian Combination (normally $10: Asparagus, Avocado, Cucumber, Cream Cheese, Shitake Mushroom with Spicy Mayonnaise) and the Midori (normally $8: Avocado, Sweet Potato Tempura Crunch wrapped in Soy Bean Paper with Unagi Sauce). The Vegetarian Combination was quite good, but missing the Unagi Sauce listed on the website menu, and I felt it really needed a bit of that savory sweetness. Our server was happy to bring over some teriyaki sauce, and it was pretty much perfect after that. The Midori was terrible: barely any avocado, not enough unagi sauce, and the sweet potato was undercooked -- so raw it was actually crunchy. I ended up sending it back, which was not a problem. I also ordered the agedashi tofu and shiitake mushroom appetizer. I enjoyed the batter they use for their tofu, though the sauce wasn't my favorite. The shiitake mushroom was a big disappointment: I could tell they used resuscitated dry mushrooms instead of fresh ones which I'd expect for such a dish, and the red wine sauce seemed way too vinegary. My partner ordered the NY steak teppanyaki and thought it was good, but not the best he's had. He was a bit disappointed that the side veggies consisted almost completely of carrots and onion. The sake was one of my least favorite sake experiences, as I found the flavor to be bitter and it had cooled down too much by the time we were half-way through. However, considering that $3 got us *both* tipsy, I really can't complain :)

4 stars because the accuracy of the order wasn't great. But the live entertainment was great, and the food was great. If you're willing to spend some money this place is well worth it.

My boyfriend and I went to Kabuki for a late night dinner. We were the only ones in the restaurant (it was pretty late on a Monday) and it was fantastic. The interior is decorated very nicely, and the staff are so friendly. Our waitress was super attentive and took care of us really well. We only ordered drinks and Maki rolls, but I'm eager to try the hibachi!!

We had a wonderful meal at this Japanese steakhouse. I had the fillet mignon. It was delicious. The wait staff was very professional and everything was great. The only thing that I would caution is that if you like the white sauce that normally comes with Japanese steakhouse meals, theirs is more of a horseradish so it is not as sweet, and more tangy.

  • Britt C.

I found my new favorite drink...in the burbs at least ;) The sidecar, was it a ginger sidecar? It had ginger in it, that much I know. I ordered some girly drink after, a cucumber melon....pshhh. That was a mistake. I should have had another ginger sidecar! I have had sushi here a couple of times, it's pretty decent. I do like that they have red snapper. One of my friends had hibachi and they really liked it so I might consider trying that again instead of sushi next time. I think this place is kinda overlooked and possibly underrated for the burbs.

Now this place is AMAZING. Their hibachi chef's are great. The food is always very flavorful and cooked to perfection! The owner Chat always makes you feel welcomed and truly cares about his customers. I have been to Kabuki several times and never had a bad experience! I wish they would open a location in Chicago! Kabuki has the best egg yolk sauce! LOVE THIS RESTAURANT

Not your typical Japanese grill if you have Chatt as your chef. I've been to many of these Japanese style steakhouses and never have been entertained as much from start to finish. He's so friendly and hilarious! Now for the food, ordered the steak and scallops. Everything tasted great.

If I can give 0 star I will..... The soup of nebayaki udon is so plain it tasted like tap water! The sashimi we ordered were even worse!! The color of tuna meat is so dark and you can just tell it is not fresh by just looking at it!! Octopus was so dried up I have had fresher ones I bought from the market myself! If you can not serve fresh sushi please do not open a sushi restaurant! Please throw those sashimi away they are not meant to be served to customers. We did not have hibachi so it may be good, but never again will we eat sushi there anymore....

I had the teriyaki chicken with the buttered shrimp. I liked the chicken but the shrimp was too buttery. They have 10 dollar lunch specials and the wait staff was very friendly. Our chef had us laughing the whole time.

Slooooow service. Brown fried rice was crispy like the rice had dried up. Served my daughter (not teppan items) her food as soon as we ordered and then didn't start cooking our meal for an hour. Standard Teppan fare but way too salty. Go to Ju Rin in Geneva or South Elgin for an excellent and fun Japanese cooking experience.

Came in on a Friday for lunch-we were going to have sushi but decided to try out the Hibachi!! Place was completely empty and we were sat w/another young couple who end up live 2 blocks away from us! Service was good and our chef was very friendly and entertaining!! Food was amazing-you must try the spicy calamari appetizer! SO GOOD! So tender i have never had one this fantastic! Prices are a little high but its so well worth it-it blows Domo and Japan 77 away!! Cannot wait to come back! Thank you!

All of the rolls I had here tasted dry, the ingredients did not taste or look fresh. The cocktail I ordered was also extremely bitter and strong. Not impressed at all.

Ordered "The Kabuki" drink, tasted ok but was expecting something special from a drink with the restaurant's name. No garnish just a pink/purple drink in a short glass. Ordered the scary lobster and giant spider... Scary lobster was a roll with stuff thrown on top, definitely a fusion dish. Flavor was ok. Giant spider... these names have nothing to do with the dishes... the scary lobster had lobster meat and i guess was scary to look at. The giant spider tasted good but looked boring, it's a big pile of yellow with crunchy sprinkled on. Service was good. Price is expensive and food is not worth it imo.

Unfortunately, I really am disappointed by the service that I received at Kabuki. The time and money I invested was not worth it. I took my mother here for her birthday. The total wait was about 1 hour and 15 minutes. We waited 30 minutes until our order was taken and another 45 minutes until we ate. There was a family seated next to us complaining and little attention was given to them. The chef came out and addressed the problem himself, which was bizarre, considering that I have never witnessed a chef come out and address an issue with a misunderstanding. The chef's priorities should be involved with the kitchen and only his kitchen duties!!! The manager was no where to be found. My mother had no silverware, so I gave her mine. I am a very patient person. I waited. I got my silverware and then ate my food. It was pretty much cold and not fresh at all. Needless to say, I won't be taking anyone out to this place for their birthday. I felt bad for my mom. :/

The food is pretty good, but the service is excellent! Everyone was very nice, attentive and happy. And each had their own unique traits. Chad was my chef. I love him! Ladies, Chad is single. :-) Anyways, I ordered the Filet & Chicken combo with miso soup & fried rice. You can choose miso soup or California rolls. The combo was also served with vegetables (onions, zucchini & carrots), a salad and ice cream. Chad went out his way to keep us entertained. While our meat was being prepared, he told me about the weekly specials and asked me to come back and see him. When I told him he was famous on Yelp, he didn't believe me! Lol. So he insisted I show him and the manager Ann Christine. Hilarious! All of this was while he was still cooking. He's quite the multitasker. Is that a word? Anyway, the rice was good but could have used more butter. Garlic butter to be specific. The steak and chicken were okay but it lacked flavor. The first time any seasoning was sprinkled on the steak was right before it was tossed on my plate. No seasoning on the chicken, just teriyaki sauce. Boy did it help. The thought of the need to drown your food in sauces for taste is not a good sign. I asked for sriracha since there were no salt and pepper shakers at the table. I dipped my steak in the sauce for taste. All the while, I am thinking, I want season!! Once Chad noticed I like spice, he gave me spicy garlic to put in my rice and steak. What a treat. It added some much needed flavor. It's the seasoning that is put on the spicy garlic shrimp. I received a red sealed envelope with a certificate. I was told I could not open it. It has to be opened by the hostess on the next visit. It could be $10 off, a free meal for a party larger than ten or another type gift. How weird is it that you cannot open it? Whhhyyy do I hafta wait. I wanna know. Call me curious. But, the truth is, I do not want to wait and come in for $2 off a $50 meal coupon. I guess they want to ensure it is not photocopied or something. Or the server wants to see the joy on your face. What could it be? Lol. But, I admit it has me looking forward to a return. Now, I'll whip out my red envelope and casually ask for salt and pepper if they are still holding out. And I will not feel "judgmental". The funniest is when the staff goes to a table to sing happy birthday, they ask the whole establishment to stop talking and eating to sing. It was about 6 full tables. He even called people out who were not singing. Pure comedy. One couple blew out the candle before the picture was taken and Chad lit it again and instructed them to only pretend to blow it out this time. We were in stitches from all the laughs. A great time with strangers who felt like family. Great for people who love fun and a bad idea for those who want a quiet time with no distractions.

The lady and I had a PHENOMENAL experience at this place. I've driven by for years and we finally decided to stop in. Glad we did. Our chef was a lot of fun and definitely had some moves I'd never seen at a hibachi place before. Great personality. You should have seen the look on my girlfriend's face when he tossed a shrimp behind his back with the spatula right into my mouth! The food was delicious and good portions. We'll definitely be back...especially for one of the open-mic nights! Thanks guys.

Came here with a friend for a late lunch/early dinner primarily because we had a restaurant.com certificate we wanted to Finally use and Kinta Sushi in Carol Stream was closed. We walked in and the trendy decor that greeted us was unexpected and refreshing. We were greeted and seated quickly (I would expect no less given there was almost nobody there). Our waiter came at the appropriate time to take our order and was very friendly and helpful. We find out they no longer accept restaurant.com certificates. Not happy about that but we figured we'd try Groupon and yay! they had a deal going on BUT only for hibachi, we want sushi. Oh well, no discount for us. They had some sushi happy hour specials going on and decided to try some, waiter was very helpful in some recommendations. We ordered some rolls off of the half-off menu but it was almost better to buy the regular roll, they gave you more for your buck. The rolls were pretty average, maybe even a little on the bland side. Overall, the decor was nice, service was good, sushi wasn't that great and neither was the price. May give it another chance at some point but don't see that happening anytime soon.

Overworked and desperately overdue for lunch at 3pm, saw this as I drove thru the area, made a u-turn, and plopped myself down at the sushi bar side (there's a Benihana-like room on the left side). Clean chic decor, bright and airy. Five stars for service - I was very well taken care of by the nicest bartender EVER - he really brightened up my day and made me feel like a million bucks even in my most-blah-unattractive-ponytailed self. No wait for refills - and I drank a LOT of iced tea. The food was a solid 3 stars. Rainbow roll - not really - it was stuffed with spicy tuna (?), but it tasted good, slightly cool, no smell, good texture, hit the spot. The bento box is a great value. The rolls, potstickers, and the fried rice add-on were all tasty, but the teriyaki beef had been sitting for a while and was tough and a bit dried out. This place is great for groups, and GNOs, good music, bar's good for happy hour. The bartender said they had great craft beers on draft. I would definitely return when I'm in the area.

Awesome Hibachi dishes - try to get Chaz (sp?) as your chef. He's one of the owners as well. Ask for the spicy rice! A little pricey(around $100 for 2 people after drinks and tip) but you'll leave satisfied.

Great place to come if you don't want to get served after you take your seat. 15 minutes and numerous attempts to find someone and no one showed up. The place wasn't even busy.

  • Jacki A.

My favorite thing about this place is the atmosphere. The sushi is alright, the service is pretty good, but the portions? Very very small for the high price. I ordered a seared tuna salad, I think it was 7 or 8 dollars and there wasn't a cup of food on the plate. And, 1/3 of that was the tuna, the rest was a mix of greens, and some sort of dressing...I'm not sure. The simple rolls like tuna, unagi, avocado, are a good price, and were very good. I don't think I'm going to return...too many negatives that out way the positives, I'll be spending my money elsewhere...sorry!

I can't wait for my birthday next month----I found my birthday dinner location!!! Went here with my sister for lunch last weekend. It was empty :/ I still can't figure out why?? They are so awesome!! Just ask for Chad and you will have a dining experience like no other. He is entertaining, funny and big flirt!! If you meet him, you will figure this out within moments. We each ordered their Hibachi combo. I ordered the filet and chicken and my sis got the chicken and shrimp. The meal came with a salad. Yum!!! We were bad and got an app of asparagus wrapped in filet. Holy Bejesus!! It was melt-in-your mouth good! The host/server I believe his name was J.D. was also very nice and kept our drinks full. The (I'm guessing) owner even cleared plates. My kinda guy. We really loved this place and I can't wait to go back next month for my birthday celebration. It will be great and my guy will get a chance to try it for his first time, too!

This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants especially when it comes down to flavor, Japanese/Hibachi style, and service!!! I frequently visit this restaurant every month...who needs Benihanna's??? Not me...their sauces (salad dressing, teriyaki, egg yolk and spicy garlic) is what makes the food 10 times better than most restaurants similar!!! The staff there are very nice & personable; which is always a plus. Kabuki's so far is part of my fav five...highly recommend!!

  • Nichole C.

Awesome things about Kabuki: 1. It seems like they have decent specials. Unfortunately, I came on a special-less day, but I was told that Tuesday's special is $4 maki. Sweet deal. 2. There is outdoor seating for those who like to look at traffic and/or get bitten by mosquitoes whilst eating. (Can you tell I prefer the indoors?) 3. There is craft beer on tap! Who knew? I came to pick up some sushi to go and while snooping around at the bar in impatient boredom, I noticed they had Firestone, Bell's, and Gemini on tap. Who knows what else is in the bottle here, but I was impressed. 4. The spicy salmon roll is pretty good. NOT AWESOME, or spicy really, but pretty good. There are big chunks of salmon and it had just the right amount of fishiness to it. 5. Takeout was quick and was wrapped well. Especially the miso soup. I admire a good miso soup wrap up. Seriously. Things I can pass on: 1. The spicy tuna was meh. Lots of rice, mashed up tuna consistency, kind of dry, slightly spicy...just meh. This is my favorite roll, and the roll upon which I judge all places by, so it brought Kabuki down a star. Sorry, man. 2. Kind of pricey (although I will pay for quality...I'm no sushi cheapskate!). Overall, another DECENT sushi place in the 'burbs, but nothing special.

A very spacious steakhouse, but empty on a Friday night. Decided to try this place out because of a restaurant.com coupon. This place is exactly like Benihana and the pricing is just about the same. The chef that cook for us was very friendly and did his best to conversate with us.. however, his failure to catch the shrimp tail and make smiley faces and hearts out of the fried rice failed to the Benihana chef we had. Also multiple of times he flipped the fried rice bowl to try and prove his point of catching the bowl on his spatula without it spilling ended up with a lot of dismayed looks on fellow eaters. (Flipping one bowl was good enough, but 2 bowls and to spill it all over is a bit much) The 2 maki rolls we ordered: crazy boy and kabuki maki are both decent. They are both fried (we accidently ordered the crazy boy when we actually wanted something else). I'm not a big fan of fried maki. My Negayaki Udon was bland and I only got 1 shrimp tempura... at least add some vegetable tempura. The chicken was scarce like they were going to run out if they gave me an extra piece. My boyfriend's family enjoyed their habachi dishes, but the only downfall is the garlic shrimp, which instead of being marinated in some sort of garlic sauce, it was patted with a mince garlic powder? which result in an unpleasant taste. The server was very friendly and attentative. Overall, decent.

Still a big fan! I just realized that I need to provide an update though... The best chef is Chad! I've talked with him many times since I wrote my original review and I'm confident that I have his name right now. :-) My glass no longer is sweating all over the table. I'm thinking that they changed some temperature somewhere because things are good. And, I can easily get a cocktail napkin to set my drink on so no more watery table. Yay! I've tried the spicy garlic shrimp, teriyaki chicken, filet mignon, salmon and even had the crab cakes a couple of visits ago. No complaints at all. The shrimp remain at the top of my list of favs. Ooh, I finally splurged for a cocktail here. It was good. A little strong...whiskey was poured with a heavy hand, so I only needed one. I'd try that same drink again. Go see Chef Chad and the friendly staff at Kabuki!

The owner of this place was a the chef manager of Rokabonki. The reason he left was he felt that a Japanese Steakhouse should only have fresh food, never frozen, never older then 2 days. He left and opened his own restaurant. The food is delicious and you can taste the freshness. For the amount of food you get the price is just right. I've been here several times and every time I go I am never let down. The sushi bar is a whole other topic. The prices are perfect and I love coming here with my husband and trying different rolls. The servers, busses, host and chef are always friendly, always smiling and are concerned about the consumers well being. I will continue to come here.

I don't know if they changed a lot on the menu or service on Valentine's Day, but I really was not thrilled with the experience. We went here as a family outing, on Valentine's Day, because... that's how my family rolls. Anyway, the host asks if we prefer hibachi or dining room. We chose dining room. It took about 10 minutes to get us seated (probably moving around tables and such). We're seated at a half booth and half chair table and because of the way the table was situated, only 2 people would have had to sit really really close together to sit at the booth. The couple at the table next to us noticed this and scooted their table, chair and themselves over to give us room. How nice of them. The staff, however, did not initiate this move. Our server was nice and explained the specials. We put in our sushi order before our main food order and the sushi came out in a timely manner. After we finished up that order, we put in a second order of different sushi rolls... which took forever, as in, the second round of sushi came out the same time our main meals did. We could see the 2 sushi chefs from our table. Wonder what was taking so long? Also, when we wanted to put another order of sushi in, we couldn't seem to find our server either. We had to ask another server to flag them down. Going back to the main meals, 3 of them eventually came out after our server came back to apologize for the wait and they'll be out soon (they did this 2 times). The 4th dish (coincidentally my meal) was likely lost somewhere in the abyss for a while. When that dish finally came to the table, the other family members were more than halfway done with their meal. Disappointing. As for the food itself, I've had better sushi. I had tempura udon, which was bland to me. When my sibling tried it, their comment was that it tasted like ramen noodles. And to think about that, they were kind of right. Did I really just pay $12 for ramen and veggie tempura? Sad. There was nothing spectacular about that dish. All together with the food, experience, and environment - nope, I will not be coming back.

I went in for lunch on my day off. I had been eager to try this place since it opened, and finally - I made it in!!! The place was very slow and quiet. Not a problem for me. The entryway is hard to see if there is no host or hostess waiting at the entrance, so it tool a little bit of time for them to notice me and seat me. That did not bother me, I was in no rush as I was off for the day. Once I noticed that more people were coming in for the lunch rush, it seemed like they were all seated quicker than I was, so I would still try this place again if on my lunchbreak. The waitress was everywhere, she was taking care of every table in the place. I thought she did a great job. she was at my table the appropriate amount of time, without being there too much, and without forgetting about me. I could tell she was a little more attentive to some of the business people on lunchbreak, Again, I was OK with all of this, I was in no hurry, and if I was on my lunchbreak, I would have wanted a little more attention. The Food... Was... FANTASTIC! The rolls with the lunch special were smaller than I would have liked, and they were obviously made ahead of time, but the sushi roll I ordered was made to order and it was a very good size!!! I;m a fan, and I will try this place again!!!

My review here is from when I went for my best friends' graduation dinner. I have not had that much fun in a while! It took so long, but luckily I was with a large group of very funny people so time flew by. I can't really go into what every single person ordered, but I can just go into what I ordered. As a matter of fact, I still smell like the restaurant. We arrived at 6, but a funny thing happened. When I was walking in with my friend, we both were misled and went all the way around to the West side of the restaurant, where there was no door. We looked like idiots, especially with the waitstaff pointing us back in the direction towards the door (which we had parked much closer to already!). That was funny. It was cold and the girl I was with started to run because we were meeting a really large group. She had boots on and I did not have the traction to sprint full speed like her. She's an animal. Anyway, we get into the restaurant and head to the bar. I got a Miller Lite, which was great tasting and less filling. Let's just say I had a few more that I usually do (which is zero). I was giggly all night! We waited for the rest of the group to join and we sat down about 630. Our server was awesome, great with refilling drinks and joking around with everyone. She took sushi orders very quickly and it is a good thing she did. I hate these restaurants because it takes so long to get food. I went with the Hibachi Combo of Kabuki Chicken and Scallops (and more Miller Lite). The order of food that came: soup, salad, shrimp appetizer with vegetables, scallops with sesame seeds, chicken, ice cream. Chris was our cook (he was pretty good making mistakes here and there). We had a joke with him that he had never cooked before tonight and the only prep he had was watching three Youtube videos. The group got Sake bombs for the grad and the grads parents. It was hilarious because they were absolutely tanked! It's probably a good idea they were because they were paying for 13 peoples' dinner and drinks. Let's just say that bill was not adjusted for pre-WWII inflation (Japanese joke here somewhere). Would I go back to Kabuki? Maybe if I had a coupon. I just had how these places bring our soup and salad that are for little people. I'd rather just get a huge salad (even though I hate eating leaves). I think these types of Japanese steakhouses are more flair than anything. It's all about presentation style. At least we didn't have a Hispanic cook like I did last time I had a Domo 77 experience. I am not racist, but it's like having a white liberal suburban mom tell you how hard little African American kids have it in the hood because she drove through it once. Just not believable. The scallops were awesome, the chicken was chicken. The brown fried rice was ok ($2 extra for more nutrients, come on American restaurant industry). I hate the fact that there is always up charges for more nutritional (and better tasting in my opinion) upgrades. Like egg whites, avocado, vegetables, or whatever. I guess it makes sense with all the subsidies to other things. Wow, did I really just go off on a tangent like that? Sorry about that friends. I just hit myself in the face with the chopsticks I brought home from last night. Punishment enough! Kabuki is awesome for a big group, especially if you're not paying. I love free meals so I don't really have much to complain about. Put a door on both sides of the restaurant so I don't look like a fool!

This place has the best of customer service and the greatest in quality of food. They have a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, sake and even vegetarian entrees. Not only was the waiter entertaining, informative and friendly, but then the owner personally came to us and introduced himself! I have been there 3 times in the short amount of time I have been living in the area and would come back for more. The only problem I would say is the price. If you are on a budget, this is not something you can do all the time, but is great for a special occasion or time with a group of friends or family. The prices are a bit more reasonable for the bento boxes that they sell for the lunchtime crowd. However, when compared to downtown sushi restaurants, the quality was similar and was a lot closer to home. So if you figure city parking prices, its really not a bad deal.

You know, at first glance, I really wasn't sure about this place...They opened about a year ago, and as an avid sushi-lover and a Valli Produce shopper, I had yet to stop there. Now it's on my way home from work, so I thought I would give it a shot. A little pricy for sushi. (My regular place has classic rolls for $4-6, whereas these range from $6-10 and much more for specialty rolls). I sat down at the sushi bar and the waitress was very pleasant, but that fourth star is for the sushi chef, whose name was I believe Ron? He was chatty, as a good sushi chef should be. He conversed with me and was entertaining to watch. He even gave me a sample appetizer before my sushi roll, of a fried Cali roll and a little seaweed salad. I will go back, for sure, mostly because he was so friendly and fun to chat with. The sushi was pretty decent. The fish in the roll was fresh, I had the white zen roll ($12), which was White Tuna and shriracha sauce atop a tuna and shrimp tempura roll with avocado (maybe cucumber too?). It was awesome. Spicy, fresh, tasty. The roll, unlike the reviews of some yelpers, was well put together, and did not fall apart in any way. Overall, not too shabby. :) I'll head back for some sushi.

Hello. My name is Celina. And I've never been to a Japanese steakhouse. That was me last week when me and the bf walked into Kabuki. I was a little nervous, a little excited and a lotta hungry. It was a Friday night, no reservations, and plenty of open hibachi tables. I did notice the "sushi room" was pretty filled up though. I'm always torn with restaurants being empty on a Friday night. Either they're just those unknown little awesome finds, or just terrible. I was happy to find out it was just one of those little awesome finds. Or so I thought. My boyfriend hadn't told me that him and his family frequent this little joint. I thought we had discovered gold! Hibachi gold! I only found out he had been here (multiple times) when he had asked for a specific chef (and owner) Chad. Let me tell you- ask for him. He made my first hibachi experience amazingly memorable! Let's talk about drinks, baby, let's talk about you and me, let's talk about all the good things and the bad things... but first the good. I suggest their cucumber melon drink. Midori melon + cucumber vodka = refreshing alcoholic beverage! It was so crisp, and refreshing, and I couldn't taste any alcohol- but I assure you it did the trick. Did I mention it was refreshing? Now onto the bad. My very-into-beer-babe asked what was on tap, and when the girl came back she was rolling her eyes about what beer he had asked about in a manner that screamed "Whatever that is, I have no idea nor do I care if you care! And I hate beer snobs." She was young-ish, and I bet she thought because we're young-ish we had no idea about what she was talking about. WRONG. Beer-babe knows his shit, she does not. Oh well- brushed her unprofessional status off my shoulders. Spotlight on food and of course... Chad! I was told to order at least one thing golden and I'm gonna tell you to do the same thing. It's like this rich, egg yolky, creamy type of stuff they cook on whatever you want. I got it on my shrimp, it was amaaaazing. Everything tasted great and the "show" was even more amazing. Fire, and flipping, and shrimp pop lock and dropping- oh my! Would have been more amazing had I actually caught the shrimp that was flung into my mouth, but theres always time to practice for next time when I check out the sushi. So go get your hibachi on with Chad!

I'm a fan of Japanese steakhouse's and have been to many years....HANDS DOWN, this is the best one I've been to in the Chicagoland area! * Atmospheres sharp! * Servers are always courteous and attentive * Delicious food (the different and creative sushi rolls are my favorite!) And the best part is Chatt!! Chatt owns the restaurant and often cooks on the Hibachi side of Kabukis.... He seems to always go out of his way to greet everyone and is quick with the jokes, making the atmosphere a fun and relaxed one.... Also a good place for something to do on the weekends....the layout of the bar is the better then any local watering hole, by far.....drinks are reasonable in price and live BANDS late night on Saturdays! You have to check this place out!!

Amazing restaurant! Been going there with the boyfriend on Tuesdays for the $4 classic maki sushi which is an awesome deal! Recently brought my mom who said she'd never try sushi but because of the super friendly service she tried it and loved it. Our waiter was so incredibly nice making the overall experience memorable. The owner, Chett, is extremely friendly and came over to our table for friendly conversation. The service is outstanding and food is fantastic! Great night out! Will remain loyal customers!

I let my low expectations subside when I walked into Kabuki. It's interior allows you to forget that you're in a strip mall location in Glendale Heights. Upon entering the restaurant through large frosted glass doors, to the right is an impressive bar with neon lights, high-top tables and a nice dining area. On the other side of the restaurant is several hibachi tables. Our group of 4 sat at the hibachi tables. 3 ate hibachi, I had sushi. I ordered 2 sushi rolls, spider (crab) and shrimp tempura. The spider roll fell apart, and the shrimp tempura roll had no crunch to it. The tempura was soggy. A previous reviewer complained his rolls were not tightly wrapped, and I'd agree since mine fell apart. There was hardly any crab or shrimp in mine. My 2 rolls cost $14, definitely a lot more affordable than other places but I'd rather pay a little more for quality sushi. Our hibachi table was dirty, there were bits of dried food in the corners. The hibachi show was lackluster. Our chef built a volcano with onions, and spent the rest of the time chopping and cooking as if he were back in the kitchen. I will not return to Kabuki. I'd recommend Aodaoke in Romeoville for sushi that's the same price, but more selection and better quality. They also have hibachi tables and the portions are larger and the chefs put on a better show.

New Japanese restaurant in town...I had to check it out. This place is pretty big and they have an outdoor seating area, too. As I walked in, I could see there were Hibachi tables to the left and then more seating area to the right. The hostess lead us to our table and there were more seating areas towards the back. I would imagine that you can always get a table at this place. As soon as I sat down, there were 3 servers at our table. Our waitress must have been training someone that shadows her around and then another waiter came to fill our glasses with water. She gave us a couple of menus, which was made out of paper and stapled together. I guess their real menus haven't arrived? Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. I was in the mood for sushi but found the selection lacking. I didn't see any maki rolls except for the 5 listed under Sushi Appetizers. I ended up ordering the chicken Yaki Soba and a sake. The noodles they used reminded me of the pre-package noodles you can buy at in the refridgerated aisle at the Asian grocery store. The dish was good, but it had too much sauce on it which made the noodles a bit soggy. There were not an abundant of meat on the noodles, but I don't like it with too much, anyhow. They actually had a sake list with a handful of different kinds to choose from. The soup and salad that came with the Kabuki Steak Hibachi came out before the drinks, which I thought was a bit strange. The steak was dry and the veggies were burnt and didn't taste very good. The Sashimi 9 piece entree for $22 didn't even come with a soup or salad. They were big pieces of sashimi and tasted fresh. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the food and I wouldn't come back for the sushi. They gave me a take out menu and I saw that they actually have a page on Maki and Maki Specials. I guess I should have requested that before dinner. Back to the Sushi Bar I go.

Went here for the first time, they do have pretty good daily specials. But it doesn't get you very far if the quality of food is not very high. Of what we ordered, I think the only item we enjoyed was the seaweed salad, and we all know that comes straight out of a box and thrown on to a plate. I love spicy food, but their spicy octopus was too spicy where you could not even enjoy the actual roll, all you tasted was the hot sauce. Not to mention the octopus wasn't the best either. Our rolls came on one plate which I am completely fine with, but what I'm not ok with is that our rolls were SOAKED in the juice from the ginger.....so we really didn't taste the rolls much. They were over powered by the ginger. Now the crispy calamari, crispy coating is perfectly normal, but ROCK hard coating....NOT COOL. The green tea ice cream was green, but didn't taste like green tea at all. I don't even know what it tasted like. Oh and the owner needs to look over the menu for spelling errors... Needless to say we won't be going back and I really wouldn't recommend it. No wonder it was practically empty.

For those berating the service, this is an update: Walk in, as per usual, Anthony Bordain (no reservations) on a Friday date night. Welcomed by the hostess. I really, really didn't want hibachi but my lady said we would; thank ya babe. Got some drinks along with the warm sake. Alright, first off, the staff was extremely attentive- if they were a fruit, it would be kiwi, the sweetest one- or maybe banana depending on your taste. We were seated at a hibachi table all by ourselves for a private show. We were the only ones treated to such since all others were with guests from other parties. The older chef was a blast: "Why she so beautiful and you so ugly?" he said at one point and following the humor up to that point, it made me crack up. The rest of the staff and management made it a point to talk to us like we were at a dinner party. Brown miso soup, salad, california roll sushi, fried rice, vegetables, main entree, and ice cream dessert. Can't say what was the best because it was all delicious.

Oh, Kabuki. I loved you so when first we met. But the last two tiimes I've gone to visit you have been... difficult. I think we might have to break up. Tonight was the cake-topper. Paid $100 for dinner for a family of four and really felt ripped off. I don't mind spending a little bit extra for a great meal, and tonight, we were celebrating something. But celebrating here was a mistake. We were the only table of diners in the room, so our waitstaff must've decided they had plenty of time to hang out with all the other waiters and ignore us. Our waitress was kind and funny, but she took a long time to bring us our drinks -- we had to ask three times before we got water. She never did bring a glass for my husband's beer, though he asked twice. I splurged on one cocktail (I'm on spring break!) -- and it was a real disappointment. It ordered the Kabuki house cocktail, which I had enjoyed on a previous trip. But this time, it ended up tasting like plum-flavored Sprite. Yuck. And that'll cost me $8... My husband ordered teriyaki chicken, which he's had numerous times as takeout and loved. But tonight, the serving size was like a joke -- his $20 meal was the same size as my son's kids' meal. And he said it wasn't very good this time. Honestly, the meat kind of looked like dry dog food. I ordered the Hibachi combination with teriyaki chicken and scallops ($26). I was supposed to get a shrimp appetizer as part of my meal -- but the restaurant apparently decided on their own that this would not be served separately, but divided up onto everyone's plate at the table and served along with our meal. They also decided the hibachi-style shrimp should be served cold, apparently. My shrimp was cool to the touch, and my hibachi-style scallops were also room temperature. Apparently they cooked all the seafood, then let it sit around while they prepared the chicken. I almost sent it back. My children still adore the fun Ramune sodas with the glass marbles inside. And they ate most of their meals and of course loved the ice cream. Kabuki - I was a big fan, a repeat visitor and a Yelp fan, too. We've gone to dinner there several times and ordered takeout a few times as well. But I'm afraid you lost this fan tonight.

I LOVE Kabuki. I have eaten plenty of sushi in my life and this place ranks w the best in its quality. With that being said I absolutely ADORE the staff there. Chet the owner is super friendly as is his manager Ann Margret. Dave the bartender has his moments too! $4 rolls on Tuesdays is a no brainer. Give them a shot!!

This place was delicious and I will definitely be back along with my family when they come to visit! This is exceedingly close to my new apartment and the family was in town. We had what we thought was a delicious hibachi restaurant in Michigan, but Kabuki blew them away!!! Normally, I don't eat shrimp - It's always been prepared poorly, so I decided that it wasn't for me. Our Chef, Chris, did an amazing job on the shrimp, scallops, and NY strip steak - NOTHING was overcooked or tough - I now successfully like shrimp and scallops (which is a huge milestone for me)! SO DELICIOUS!!! The cost was a little high, but I have been living off of Taco Bell and dollar food for a while, so I'm sure it was just different than what I was used to paying. It costs the same as most hibachi grill restaurants. The food was worth every penny. It's the taste of the big city without having to purchase a train ticket or pay for parking downtown - GO THERE NOW! You will not be disappointed : ) !

A friend and I met up here for lunch today. They had quite a few patrons already eating and, sadly enough, only one server. He told us we could sit anywhere, and not having ever been to Kabuki, were unsure of where to sit at first. (He did take some time to clarify.) I felt bad for the guy, but he was very friendly and ended up thanking us by the end of our meal for "being so easygoing." He was genuine and clearly was shorthanded through no fault of his own. The manager took our drink orders, and it took a while for the green tea, but we were informed when we ordered, which I appreciate. (I guess they make it fresh to order.) We each had the Teriyaki steak + mushroom "Bento Box" lunch special, reasonably priced at $10. The Bento included miso soup (yum..I think they actually cut their OWN tofu. I wish it included some wakame/seaweed). I was pleasantly surprised that the steak had a nice sear on the outside, and the mushrooms did NOT come from a can. Score! Also included was steamed rice (sadly, not very sticky), 3 gyoza, 4 sushi rolls (2 Spicy Tuna and 2 advertised as California, although that was the first time I've had imitation crab meat in a California roll), a little bit of seaweed salad, and lightly pickled ginger (not dyed with Red 20 or whatever it is). I also appreciated that the wasabi wasn't the abrasive chalky type - it was actually very creamy and mixed very well into the soy sauce (no chunky wasabi floaters)! It was a nice light lunch; we both felt satisfied, but not overly full. There was a Deluxe Bento Box option for $2-5 dollars more that included tempura. For two of us, the bill was $24 before tip. What a great lunch price! Definitely worth going back; maybe for dinner next time, although I personally am not a big hibachi fan, so I'll probably head to the sushi bar section again.

We have been to many Japanese steakhouses, and this one is the best. The service was outstanding, and the food was excellent. We were also impressed by how clean the restaurant and the cooktops were. Our chef, Chris, was very sociable and funny! We will definitely be back.

I think I may have found another decent sushi joint! Tip: Walk through the main doors, not the doors facing North Ave which are enclosed by a fence or you my find yourself confused & in an awkward setting. I was very pleased with the flavors of the sushi here. They have very tasty maki rolls. The two rolls I ordered were the Volcano roll and the Crazy Boy roll. The Volcano roll is a must, I loved it. As for the Crazy Boy, it was really good but, to me, there is just too much cream cheese. The sushi chef's here take pride in their foods. With the Crazy Boy roll, the chef was not happy with it's presentation and decided to make a new roll for us free of charge. Although I really saw nothing wrong with the first one, I decided why not, it's free. The Law Of Diminishing Marginal Utility definitely came into affect here, the rolls are pretty large. There were two thing that I feel I should mention. First is the waiting time. For three rolls, we waited about 35-45mins and this was when the sushi bar was pretty much empty. Secondly, the rolls were not rolled tightly which left us with them falling apart easily; not very enjoyable trying to fish out the roll when it falls apart in the dipping tray. I have yet to eat in the dinner diner section, and when I do, I will update. If you live in the area, I recommend Kinta Sushi if you haven't already.

New Years eve. Ten of us went to dinner. Our reservations were for 7:30 pm. We arrived approximately 7:15. Let the hostess know we were there . She said it would be a few minutes for the table. We didn't get seated until 9pm then sat at the table/grill for another 30 - 40 minutes before anyone approached us. One couple left. The rest of us waited. We were told that they would bring us a round of drinks on the house. Wrong I was charged for my drink. We didn't get out of there until 11pm and our reservation was for 7:30. Very pricey $93.00 for dinner and od course the gratuity was added in already. My husband and will definitely NOT be going back.

I went to dinner at Kabuki today, and I have mixed feelings about it. The sushi, entrees, and drinks were great, but for the size/quantity, I thought it was more expensive than other places I have been. kabuki loses some stars for me because of a few things that happened tonight that may be a fluke, but I have to mention them anyway. First of all, we were seated with no drink menu. We all wanted drinks, and it took about 10 or 15 minutes before our server could find one. She actually just ended up stealing one from another table. Secondly, as a sushi place, there was no soy sauce on our table and when we got our food, all the soy sauce bottles were occupied by other tables. How is that possible? We waited several minutes for our server to try and find us a bottle, but when she showed up empty handed, we just asked another table to lend us theirs. I know this may sound a bit nit picky and maybe over critical, but these were two things that should be automatic in a restaurant: drink menus and condiments. I may have to give this place another shot when they are less busy.

Took my sister & husband here who both have more 'sushi' experience than me & they both LOVED it! I don't think its over priced either.

Came here with the boyfriend using a Restaurant.com coupon. When I called to make a reservation, we were told there was nothing open until 8pm, so that's when we set our time. We get there and it's fairly open, so I was a little peeved at being deceived. It was explained later on that there are only two chefs working as one called in so the reservations were necessary to accommodate the staff. I still wasn't too happy about it but I was too hungry to care after awhile. We were originally seated with a larger party but since that party had to wait for their remaining members, we were allowed to move to another grill with only one other couple. I will admit the other guy was cute (like an Asian Shia LeBeouf), but it weirded me out more that the couple was almost a replica of us from an alternate universe. She was Caucasian and wore a purple sweater vest with a black undershirt and he was Asian wearing a black dressy sweater; my beau is Caucasian wearing a black dress shirt while I wore a purple toga shirt with a black camisole underneath. Some of the things we ordered were almost exact, but I can't remember the details that well. Alternate universe but I have SERIOUSLY digressed. The service was decent: the server would sometimes almost trick me into thinking what she is suggesting is regular priced. She asked if fried rice would be okay, but there was a charge indicated on the menu and she neglected to say so. She also did the same about asking if we wanted dessert but ice cream was included in the meal. The beau pointed out that I may have made her uncomfortable when I questioned the order of the tables being prepped for grilling. The chef, even with the usual routine, was considerate enough to realize I never got my steamed white rice. He also did a good job on my order of medium-rare - originally I ordered medium because the beau doesn't like rare but he said he wasn't going to eat much of mine so I changed it to what I really wanted and the chef was accommodating. Oh and out of the four people at our table, I was the only one who caught the flying shrimp. I was proud of me. That's probably the most memorable part of dinner.

After reading some reviews here and elsewhere, I was skeptical. But I'm glad we went to give it our own opinion. The sushi menu has been redesigned since October 2010 with fresh new ideas and daily special rolls. We ate at the sushi bar as I am not a fan of repeated hibachi shows -- that's just me with the "been there done that" attitude. The sushi chef was very friendly and very accommodating. The newly renovated sushi menu was great and the sushi presentation was artistic and creative. The special rolls had appealing flavors that required no soy sauce dipping and some rolls just melted in your mouth. This is a great new find in the suburbs for more than the standard menu. We'll be back for more!

I've been here twice now. First time was not that bad. The place seems like they had an identity crisis. The decor is nice, just kinda out of place? It seems like it's trying too hard to be trendy. The prices are so so. The first time I had some hibachi and the experience was decent. I enjoyed the meal and had some sushi as well. The staff was nice and amicable. The second time we had to leave early because the other people we were with had a baby who just did not like the place and kept crying lol. So we took everything to go. When we got home we were pretty unimpressed. I dunno if they have different portions for takeout but my yaki soba had 6 pieces of chicken in it. 6. I'm not exaggerating. Actually it was more like 5 and a half. The udon used a stock chicken broth. Really? So I am not sure about this place. I guess for hibachi it's ok, but not spectacular. I thought it'd be a fresh new place to go, but even in the sushi department I'd rather go to a few other local joints. I wouldn't recommend this place, but if you have a hankering and like to try something new, then give it a shot.

We tried the hibachi at Kabuki for the first time last night, and it was amazing! The key to this restaurant is asking for chef "Bob" and asking for the amazing spicy garlic fried rice. Bob is one of the owners/the head chef, and really made our experience a great one. He customized the food and "tricks" to our liking. The story behind Kabuki is that its a group of chefs from area hibachi restaurants (Tsukasa, Rokbonki, etc) that got together and decided to open up their own place, focusing on good service and food. So, on to the spicy garlic fried rice. The BF and I were the only ones at our table, and there was a little bit of fried rice leftover after our bowls were filled. Bob said "Hey, do you guys like spicy food?" to which we replied "Absolutely!" He turned that little bit of rice into samples of spicy garlic fried rice for us, and we were hooked. We had him take the remains of our fried rice bowls and transform them. The rice is soy-y, garlicky, and crispy with a lingering heat that is so good. I think I'm drooling now just thinking of it. Everything else was very good, from the soup and salad (creamy ginger dressing), to the terriyaki chicken, steak, fried tofu, and veggies. No overcooked meat here! We also had the tempura ice cream for dessert, which was tasty except I wouldn't have chosen strawberry ice cream. The service was also spot-on. Our total bill came to around $60 for 2 meals, appetizer, and dessert. Not bad for teppanyaki. Patronize, patronize, patronize this place! And don't forget to ask for the spicy garlic fried rice!

Like others, I too was curious about this super-new Japanese Steak House in the area so another foodie friend and I decided to check it out. We had one of their combos, two sushi rolls and some hot tea. Here's what they've got going for them: - Their decor is really nice. Probably nicer than some of the other areas. I agree with the previous reviews below- a bit out of place for this area, but a nice restaurant is probably what this area might want. - Their service was really nice. People were super friendly and the chef did well at engaging our table and making jokes. Here's what I did not like: - Their food really isn't that good. Maybe I'm used the taste of some other places, but their quality is just not up to par for the prices you're paying. You're paying four-star prices for two-star quality. - We had two sushi rolls, one with raw fish. The one with raw fish was OLD. It looked beautiful, but it was not fresh at all. (Big pet peeve of mine, going to places when the sushi is not fresh, nor do they use the good quality fish) - They goofed on their hot green tea. It's supposed to be green, it came out dark brown. Had to send it back and we got new ones which were green, but it was very bitter bitter. Undecided with: - The chef we had was funny and engaging, but he kept making a ton of mistakes, dropping things and performing very poorly. He didn't seem like he wasn't trying very hard to impress us with his cooking. I attribute it to the new-ness of this restaurant and it's been a few months now so I figure he should have his act together. In short: You're really paying for very nice deco and service. If you want good quality and better tasting food for the same price, go elsewhere. But if you just want a really nice atmosphere with sub-par food, then this place will do.

Sushi at a Japanese steakhouse? Usually 5 kinds of fish and zero creativity right, not at Kabuki. I sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed speaking with the chef. Im sure Im spelling his name incorrectly but the sushi chef Jin was very helpful and explained the many types of fish they had. I started with potstickers which tasted frozen but the sushi was quite good. The salmon was very fresh and I liked the way he did the unagi. They had a tuna that was marinated in a citrus mix and the white tuna melted in your mouth. Skip the potstickers try the sushi.

Celebrated our 18th year wedding anniversary. Sushi was excellent and service impeccable. Had the pleasure of meeting Chatt, the owner, who made the evening more enjoyable by sitting down with us after dinner. There aren't too may places where the owner/chef would take the time to get to know the customers. At the end of the night he made us feel like we were long time friends. Love this place!

We ordered take out sushi to see how we like their food. It was quite nice, not the ordinary taste but dressed up with some special sauces and of course wasabi. Not too hot for my delicate tongue either. Next date night, we'll go have the dine-in experience without the "worry" of trying a new sushi place.

Have dined here approximately 10 times in the past year and a half. The sushi here is very good, but the size of their salads are very disappointing (compared to Kinta in Carol Stream which gives you a dinner salad 3 times the size). Staff has almost always been great. On my most recent visit, our waitress (I didn't catch her name but the receipt said Purevsuren) who was a woman in her 40s was VERY pushy with us to order more expensive items. I really did not appreciate that. Then she entirely forgot to bring one of our rolls to the table but NEVER came back to check on us. I kept scanning the room to find her, and when I finally found her, I spotted her sitting at the sushi bar eating HER dinner. She didn't come back to our table until we were completely done with dinner so we didn't even bother letting her know about the roll that she forgot (which wasn't on our bill either).

I'm just not sure about this place. It is brand spankin new but not too sure about the food and the service. Upon walking in one side is the bar and dining tables where you can order sushi and the other side is the Teppanyaki/grill side where you get entertained by the chef cooking your food. We decided to get entertained and ordered some sushi too. The food was alright, the show was just like any other japanese steak house. The chefs tried to wow the patrons but making a huge flame and freaked my kid out and felt my eye brows cinge a little. The chef was squinting the whole time and had this smirk on his face, but didn't seem to really notice us and was doing his own thing in this trance. We concluded he was hugging some trees. I will try it again in a couple months, hopefully they'll get their groove by then.

Unbelievable, dreams come true! My family and I have been connoisseurs of hibachi style restaurants for years. We have been avid fans of Domo and Japan 77 going there any time we were celebrating a milestone...that all ended tonight...Kabuki was a life-changing experience. After a long day at work, my friends and I were looking to eat something delicious and since I usually work until 9, finding a quality restaurant is a challenge in itself. I was craving some Japanese cuisine and suggested Domo...my friend called, they were closed but upon his search for the number he came across a diamond in the rough. He suggested we try Kabuki and after fighting my hesitation(I am deathly afraid to try new things) I caved and off we went. My heart was pounding, palms sweating, I felt like I was going on a blind date! We were greeted by a friendly hostess and escorted to our table and explained the different menus, unlike the places we regular. Nelson, our waiter, promptly came and asked our drink order, after reading over the menu we made our choices. Here is where the magic began...Chat(worlds most exquisite waiter) came from the kitchen like a phoenix rising from the ashes...he was hilarious, talented and made the experience incredible. The service was phenomenal, food was delicious but that's not all, you really feel like they care about you, they don't just look at you as a money sign! I realize this is a long review but I feel like any words I say won't do this place justice, you need to try it for yourself, you won't be sorry! Make sure you ask for Chat as your chef and Nelson as your waiter! THANKS KABUKI!!

Kabuki Steak and Sushi is a very welcomed addition to the area. It is well decorated modern Hibachi and Sushi Restaurant. The restaurant offers something for everyone and is broke out into multiple sections. They have a bar area to the right when you first walk in with seating around the bars as well as high tops that line the windows. Behind the bar area is a section for more traditional dinning, as well as seats around the sushi chef. The entire left side features multiple hibachi tables which can accommodate multiple groups or large parties. With that said now to the review. Pros: * Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. I have been coming here a couple times a months since they opened and have not have one bad experience with the staff. * The food is really good. I tend to stick with certain things, however anytime I bring other people here they always are satisfied with the food quality and preparation. * Beer Selection.....YES Beer selection. Kabuki actually has 4 beers on tap 3 of which are Micro Brews. They had Miller Light at one point and replace it with Bells Oberon for the summer. Kudos! * Cleanliness. Call me Crazy but when I am eating sushi I think cleanliness is important. Kabuki is kept up extremely well and never dirty. * Specials... If you sign up for email or check there face book page they often have great specials on rolls and other items. I wish they had more draft beer specials. Cons * Good Sushi in general is not cheap and Kabuki is right in line with other good sushi places in the area. It can get costly especially if you go as much as I do. * Need more specials on Draft Beer/Drink Specials as noted above. Insider Tip (Menu Item) * Believe it or not one of my favorite items to order here are the chicken wings. The sauce is out of this world and has a very unique flavor. They only come in one flavor (Asian Teriyaki) however if you like them spicy be sure to ask and they can really make them with a kick. Request them from the Bar Bites Menu. Overall this is one of my favorite places in the area to eat. The staff is extremely welcoming and the ambiance is great for this type of restaurant. I can't wait to try out the Hibachi side at Kabuki. People are always laughing and having fun around the hibachi table when I visit.

I have been to one of their open mic nights. The J&D band were the nicest people I could ever play with. I have not tried their food, but I have been so overwhelmed by this moment that I just have to talk about it. If you love live music ranging from Alternative, Jazz, Country, (and other singers that range from Pop) come see them play on some Wednesdays from 8:15PM until closing. The Wednesdays vary, so it is best to look in Kabuki's webpage and see the calender for yourself. Before then, I kept thinking to myself that live music is slowly decaying, but when I saw that Open Mic night, I can't help but smile and have the time of my life.

We just tried Kabuki for the first time and it was an excellent experience! We loved everything about the place. We didn't sit on the hibachi side as we were there to try the sushi. It did not disappoint! The sushi was beautiful and it was delicious! We a few different rolls...the Crunch, the Crazy Boy, Philadelphia, and a couple pieces of Ugani (Eel). They were all excellent. They did the Philly roll a little different than I've had it before and I enjoyed it. The eel was the best we've had at any sushi place so far. The miso soup was very good too. The service was fantastic and everyone that worked there was friendly to us. The music and atmosphere was perfect. I can say that we will be back without a doubt! We have a new sushi restaurant! I highly recommend you check it out.

My family and I love the food, love the staff, & love the great service always provided. Unfortunately Chad/Chef does not work Tuesdays. We had a more shy, but still entertaining Chef. Our host was also so polite. ALWAYS worth the drive:D Their Spicy Garlic Shrimp is so tasteful! I always have to order it! My kids love the Teriyaki Chicken and always eat everything on their plate!

Finally got around to trying this place. Being a frequent of Kampai, Orchid, Sushi Ya, Domo 77, and Ron of Japan, I'm trying my best to try them all. We started off with Tempura calamari and veggies - hard to screw that up. Tasted great - was nice to have broccoli in there. For dinner, we had miso soup (average), and two rolls - White Zen and Crazy Boy. I loved them - my girlfriend liked them, but said Crazy Boy tasted a bit too mayo for her liking, but she still liked it a lot. Crab meat was real which we always look out for. Ended dinner with some tempura ice cream - deadly stuff. :) Love the decorating - we'll be back if we're in the area.

We have come here on many occasions - weekly at times, and the food and service has always been FANTASTIC. We even showed up once after close, and in stead of turning us away they graciously accommodated us and had the back up sushi chef prepare our order and the sushi was Excellent as always!! We love this place - so worth it!!!!

Service was beyond terrible, they flubbed restaurant 101.... We sat for nearly an hour before our order was taken. A family that sat at our table got up and left after repeated complaints to the manager. I was right behind them but reasoned it would be difficult to walk in somewhere else on Valentines Day. So we stayed... But it went down hill from here. We witnessed so many people complaining at almost every table. We had no silverware, had to ask repeatedly for water refills, had dirty plates... This place won't be around long nor should it! There are two many restaurant choices in Chicago to put up with this!

My sister has been a regular diner here since Kabuki first opened, and always raving about this place - so I finally decided to join her. I'm now a fan too and will be back! We ordered a delicious and beautifully prepared appetizer roll wrapped in cucumber, and shared a combination meal of three specialty rolls that came with soup and salad; only we asked them for a special favor to make them without rice and they were more than happy to customize the order for us. The presentation was attractive, and our server Nelson made the meal even more special with his attentive service. The trio of cool decor, great food, and truly personal service have won me over. Thanks Kabuki! :)

This place is just alright. Definitely not the best of the hibachi places. Portions were small, service was terrible, and the taste was mediocre. They need to step up their act a bit!

I'll start by saying that this is probably a 2.5 star review but I rounded down. I went to Kabuki on 9/11/2012 looking for a quick lunch. I walked into the restaurant and it was practically empty. Now, for a Tuesday at Noon, this isn't a good sign. The hibachi side of the restaurant was completely empty when I arrived. I was greeted at the hostess table by an upbeat guy who handed me off to a waitress who ended up showing me to my table. She was being shadowed by the guy which told me she was new. I have no problem with new servers, sometimes they're more attentive. Walking to my table I notice that the sushi side of the restaurant is also basically empty. There was a girl with her son which turned out to be the manager/owner's daughter and grandson. Interesting. I was sat next to another woman with her 3 year old son. I have no problem with that. The problem is why are there only 3 tables worth of people in this restaurant during high lunch hour? Red flag. Since I had never been there, I just asked for water with lemon to drink so I had time to browse the menu. The waitress informed me that Tuesday's special were $4 Classic Maki. Woo! Bonus! There were quite a few Classic rolls on the menu with some variety, so you weren't pigeon-holed into spicy tuna and California rolls. The prices of the rolls were average, on-par with most of the surrounding sushi bars. The waitress comes back to take my order, dropped off my water; I tell her that I'd like a bowl of miso soup, a Philly roll, a Spicy Scallop roll, and a Spicy Crab roll. Basic, yes. And I like spicy, so I didn't think this would be an issue. I see the waitress go to the computer which is stationed at the corner of the sushi bar. And it's not difficult to notice that the waitress is having issues with the input of the order. The guy shadowing her also has a problem with it and calls over the manager/owner and she tells him that she has to call someone to fix it. Red Flag. The guy brings me my bowl of miso soup. BLAH! It is luke-warm at best and it's severely watered down. Horrible. I'm not sure if they didn't stir the soup before pouring it in the bowl or what, but it tasted as if they took miso soup and cut it with half water to save money. Not good. Red Flag. Meanwhile the woman next to me and her son get their food delivered. They'd probably sat down 15mins before me by my guesstimate. I am absorbed in my Kindle trying to enjoy my lunch time while I wait for my food, but I hear the owner/manager tell them that she's unable to fix the ordering system right away and they need to reboot the system. 10mins have passed since I placed my order. Remember, I am the only one here that has an order in with the sushi chef. I hear the owner tell the wait staff to just tell the sushi chef what I ordered and he'll make it and the order will get entered as soon as the computer reboots. Should this not have been the proper channel to take before she ran off to call whomever about the computer and ordering system being down? Red Flag! 15mins after the fiasco of "tell the chef what she ordered" I get my three rolls. There really should not have been reason for me to wait almost 30mins to have 3 sushi rolls delivered to me when I was the only person in the restaurant ordering food. Yes, I understand it's a sushi restaurant and it takes time to make the rolls. This isn't my first rodeo, I know how this works. I see that I have all 3 rolls that I ordered, so there weren't any screw-ups in that department. I am fascinated by the Philly roll. The salmon was placed on top of the roll with the inside only containing the cream cheese and avocado. I've honestly never had a Philly roll served to me in that fashion. I'm impressed and I like it. It seemed as if I had more salmon than if it had been included inside of the roll. The Spicy Crab & Spicy Scallop rolls were hearty. The scallops were perfect. The issue I have with these rolls is that they were basically Sriracha squirted into the rolls and that was what made them "Spicy". That to me isn't a spicy anything roll, it's a Sriracha roll. I see the sushi chef playing on his phone. Red Flag! I eat it all; I'm starved & at this point I just want to get out of there. I was never offered a refill of water, I was never checked on to see if everything was okay. Red Flag! The waitress comes back to clear my table and asks if I'd like anything else. I asked for the check and she comes back 5 minutes later. What was the hold up? I had watched them input my order. She comes with my check and I hand her my credit card immediately. 10mins pass and the manager comes to me stating that she ran my card 3 times and it wasn't accepting it. It was not maxed out by any means. RED FLAG! What if I hadn't had cash or another card? She'd be screwed. No apologies for the card not working or saying she tried to call it in. Not good business practice. All in all this was a poor experience. I may give them another shot to redeem themselves.

I ordered spicy tuna and spicy salmon last night. The spicy tuna was very spicy and not much else. The spicy salmon had a LOT of sauce and was rolled as good as i can do it at home. The rice fell out after it was dipped in soy sauce and I had to resort to using a fork. Also, the soy sauce dipping tray is spit in half which makes it impossible to dip the sushi without squishing it to fit. My husband ordered kabuki heat and the amount of mayo on his plate overwhelmed the meal. Also, the portion size was so large he cut it in thirds to fit into the small soy sauce dipping tray.

For months now I've been going to Kabuki and every time its an amazing experience. I can't stress enough how important fresh fish is and the fish at kabuki is INCREDIBLE, the portions are big and beautifully presented. Ive also been introduced to their martinis and mixed drinks which Never disappoint, Andy's drink creations paired with sushi make my day. If I could visit every day I would! I just love it here!

My husband and I tried Kabuki out for Valentine's Day. He called ahead and made reservations for 6:30 at the sushi bar, but I was hungry at 5:45 and we went early. From the moment we walked in we were impressed. The hostess was friendly and funny. She even asked my first name, knowing my husbands due to the reservation. When seated at the sushi bar, she introduced us to the Sushi Chef's and they both acknowledged us, and were very inviting. When we sat down, the hostess gave us both menus for the Hibachi and Sushi, and went over the Valentine's Day Specials with us. We decided to go with a $50 Sushi for 2, which included 2 appetizers and 4 sushi rolls. I typically like a variety and thought this was a great way to try a few. As we watched the chef's prepare our food and others, it was intriguing. They cut fresh vegetables, as they are ordered. They also add a nice decor to each and every individual plate. The entire experience was amazing! My husband and I will for sure be visiting them again!

My fiance and I recently tried Kabuki for the first time and we had a very pleasant experience. We loved the decor, but since it was a nice night we decided to sit outside. We ordered a few sushi rolls and they were all delicious and the presentation was very creative. Our server was very nice and came back often to check on us even though we were the only people seated outside. We will be back!

My husband and I went on Valentine's Day for our first time here. I was able to book us by phone with no problem. The location had plenty of parking which was nice. The place was very clean and modern looking. It's attached to a strip mall. When you enter the restaurant, it's divided... on the left side were 12 hibachi stations and washrooms (which were nice/clean and modern looking) and on the right was a full bar and sitting table area. We also notice that they have an outside eating area assuming for warmer weather dining. We sat at the hibachi area. I ordered the combo chicken/golden shrimp and my husband got the steak/golden shrimp. We also ordered a roll of spicy tuna (5pcs). It was pretty good really spicy. The chef was entertaining, but noticed our meal was not as much (size/quantity) as I would expect to pay in a hibachi restaurant (believe me, I've been to plenty around the Chicago land area to know what to expect) I LOVE hibachi, but for the price you pay I was hoping to bring food home. The food tasted the same as other hibachi places but again, not enough to feel satisfy. I had to ask for an extra order of steam rice. We had water with our meal and they were good in making sure they were filled which is a plus. As for the ice cream choices, I was bummed that we had to pay extra for Green Tea ice cream. Overall, hibachi was fine. Atmosphere was better. Next time, I plan to go back to try their different sushi makis maybe dine outside.

My friend and I decided to try this place on a Thursday night. We sat on the hibachi side. We had heard that they are just like Japan77 so we wanted to give it a try. I ordered the shrimp. It really didnt have much flavor which I really didnt like. My friend had the terryaki chicken and that was good. We both had the fried rice and that was awful! OMG! It tasted like rotten eggs. It was not good at all. The cook was very entertaining and I wish the food was a bit better because it would have made this experience way better. I dont think I would ever go back to this place unless it was to try the other sushi options they have.

The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. It was nicely decorated and the staff was friendly. I went with some friends and we would have enjoyed it but our vegetable fried rice had two pieces of hair, so the waitress gave us a fresh new order of rice and we found another piece of hair in that as well. When we received our check she never took the fried rice off our check. I don't think I'll be heading back.

I have mixed reviews about this place. I went there twice, once during lunch time with a co-worker and the second time on a Friday night date with my wife. The first visit with my co-worker it was amazing. My co-worker and I both ordered sushi, sashimi style. Huge portions, very fresh, came with plenty of ginger, and vegetable side items. They even gave us free sample of seafood salad. I was so impress that I had sushi on my mind for the next 2 weeks and wanted to show my wife this place. Then came the second visit with my wife. I ordered the same thing. Hugely disappointing. The sushi was a lot smaller, and they looked like scraps due to how it was cut. There weren't any side veggies and was given very little ginger and wasabi, unlike the first visit. It was night-and-day difference between the two visits. I couldn't believe it. Granted I had high-expectations due to the first visit, but even if I didn't have the expectation this visit was extremely disappointing. Unfortunately the second visit turned me off so much that I would not visit this place again. What I did like is that both visits had very friendly staff. My waiter (first visit) and waitress (second visit) were very polite and had great mannerism. What I did notice that could have affected the quality of the sushi was that during my first visit, the sushi chef was an elderly Japanese man. I know this may come out stereotypic, but he looked like he just came from Japan and knew what he was doing. My second visit, the chef was a Japanese male in his late 20's maybe early 30's. He didn't look like a typical traditional Japanese sushi chef but a college student moonlighting as a sushi chef at night. What I'm saying is that he did looked out of place, and thinking back, I was a little put back when I first saw the chef but didn't think anything about it at that time. (Yes, I'm the type that looks at who's cooking the food at restaurants serving ethnic food) I regret not ordering something else off the menu that was from the kitchen. Oh well. All in all, 3 stars, since my 2 experiences have been extremely inconsistent and the place is very expensive to gamble over rather or not you get the good chef or not.

better than domo and japan 77 !!! really ! this is not a sushi review , we dont do sushi , we do the hibachi style food . we go to these places all the time !! and wow kaubuki did it for us !!! just all around fantastic ! we get the hibachi combination ! the california roll was so good , the steak with terryaki ! the shrimp , lobster , veggies . please dont forget to add the golden (egg-yolk) to everything ! we love it . but the best is the fried rice... the best ive ever had ! its a clean restaurant and great family or couples environment , we dont drink , but wow what a great bar set up ! we will be back ! and back again !

I went for dinner tonight with my girlfriend and we got treated with the most unprofessional service I ever experience at a restaurant . We got there around 6:50 and got seated right away . We go ahead and place our order with a waitress who I can barely can understand since she seems like she could speak English very well which was not the problem . The problem I have was the waitress seems to rush us to place our order and did seems to very friendly at all which made me my girlfriend feel very comfortable . After we place our order around 7:10 which I place a sushi order and my girlfriend a large soup and beef asparagus . Now we sat very close to the sushi bar . Now it took them about 15 or 20 minutes for them to make my sushi which is not the problem , the problem I have is that I saw when they were done making my sushi but the waitress saw it at the sushi bar and walk right pass three times until 15 minutes later and now it's around 7:40 . Now girlfriends food has still not arrive yet and this waitress could have time bringing our food together instead she chose to be very rude and standoffish when it came to us and brought my girlfriends food 10 minutes later . I will never , never ever spend one dime in this garbage you call a restaurant since I thought it was close to were I live in Bloomingdale that we could get a good meal . So for the management of this restaurant , that $27.66 is the only money you will ever see from me ever again . We I go to work at Fedex Monday morning I make sure to let all my co-workers know not to ever ever eat or spend a dime of there money at your place . Your restaurant really gave me and my girlfriend a bad taste in our mouth for trying somewhere new but your place really sucked in services . Two thumps down for you guys . I will sure to tell all my friends and family to not waste there time or spend there hard earn money at a place that has very unprofessional staff. My girlfriend did speak to the manager and we ended up leaving with out my girlfriend eating her dinner and me not finishing my dinner . We walk out of there since the place made us feel very comfortable, I had way better services at KFC more did we did at this place . Oh yeah I make to let all my local Facebook friends know not to ever go and spend a dime in your crappy ass restaurant .
